Spain opens its Euro campaign with a goalless draw with Sweden and takes its first point in Group E
The Spanish national team opened its campaign in the European Nations Cup (Euro 2020), with a goalless draw with its Swedish counterpart, in the match that brought the two sides together at the “La Cartoja” stadium in Seville, for the first round of Group E in the competition.
The "La Roja" team tried to impose its style of play and rhythm on the opponent from the start, while the Swedes fell back to secure their goal from the continuous Spanish attacks.
Luis Enrique's men exerted some pressure in the opponent's half in search of the first goal, but the balls made available to the trio of Alvaro Morata, Koke Resurreccion and Dani Olmo in front of the goal did not translate into goals, ending the first 45 minutes of the confrontation with a goalless draw.
The two teams returned to the match at the start of the second half, as the Swedish team tried to create troubles for the defense of its Spanish counterpart, and almost surprised it with one of the balls shot by the player, Marcus Berg, but his attempt missed the way to the net.
Soon, the Spanish attacks returned to weaken the Swedish national team and force it to retreat back and defend its goal desperately, at a time when Alvaro Morata's companions tried to break the "barrier" that hinders them without scoring in the next minutes.
The changes were delayed a little on both sides, despite the result remaining the same, and after their occurrence, they aimed to improve the offensive performance of both teams, but the goals were absent from the entire minutes of the confrontation, after which the referee whistled, announcing the end of the match in a goalless draw.
With this result, the Spanish team occupies second place in the fifth group of the "Euro" with one point, shared with Sweden, while Slovakia managed to win the first round after its victory over Poland (2-1).
